Millennials earn less than boomers did at the same age

According to a recent analysis of Federal Reserve data by the group Young Invincibles, millennials earn 20 percent less than baby boomers did at the same stage of life.

Even though millennials are better educated, they have half the net worth of their boomer parents, with a lower home ownership rate and higher student debt.

Since 1950, the chance of making more money than your parents has declined despite higher numbers of college-educated job seekers. This decline is problematic for boomers reaching retirement age because their Social Security and Medicare benefits are funded partially by payroll taxes from millennials, and they’ll need millennials to invest in the financial markets to protect older generations’ savings.
