No. 9 Kentucky men’s basketball (4-0) stayed hot on Tuesday night, defeating the Lipscomb Bisons (2-4) 97-68.
Despite taking down one of the most ferocious teams in the country, No. 6 Duke, one week prior, the Cats came out showing no signs of a “hangover,” as they outplayed the Bisons in nearly every aspect of the game.
Senior guard Jaxson Robinson manufactured another dominant performance as he scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, shot 6-10 (60%) from the field and 3-6 (50%) from behind the three-point arch.
Robinson’s dominant display came just one game after he put up a poor showing against the Blue Devils, scoring just one point — a free-throw — while grabbing one board.
The uncharacteristic showing from Robinson was statistically his worst since Feb. 18, 2023, when he scored zero points through 19 minutes played in a 71-65 BYU loss to Saint Mary’s.
“I felt like I let the team down with my body language in the last game,” Robinson said.
While Robinson’s performance against Duke was certainly enough to be considered a blunder, he elevated his gameplay and helped lift UK to its fourth straight win and, if it wasn’t obvious enough, his confidence never skipped a beat.
Head Coach Mark Pope, full of wisdom and motivation, is known for dropping inspirational quotes on the fly and, with that, he made sure to never let his star’s mentality tumble.
“When you got a coach like that that is willing to let you shoot the ball, I mean it’s huge for everybody on the team,” Robinson said.
Robinson and the Cats look to stack onto their four game hot streak on Nov. 22 against Jackson State in Rupp Arena. That game can be viewed on ESPN+ or the SEC Network+ at 7 p.m.
