“The Secret of Us” is a phenomenal album with raw emotions and excellent vocals.
Gracie Abrams “The Secret of Us” deluxe album is amazing. It came out Oct. 18, 2024. Abram’s added four new incredible songs and three live versions of her songs.
The four new songs she added to the deluxe album of “The Secret of Us” were “Cool,” “That’s So True,” “I Told You Things” and “Packing It Up.”
Of course Gracie’s previous songs in her album are incredible as well. However, these four new songs add a whole new depth.
Abrams’ songs are a lot about the pain of relationships and how heartbreak can change the way you feel about someone after the fact. Her song “Felt Good About You” portrays this excellently. It talks about how she felt good about a person at first and then she was later on disappointed.
In her song “Cool,” she has an annoyed tone. When Abrams says “Calm down maybe, baby, calm down” it portrayed Abram’s irritation with the guy excellently. Abrams has a talent for making songs show certain emotions.
My favorite song in her deluxe album is “I Told You Things”. It’s about how she told a guy personal experiences that she regrets telling him. In the song she says “I told you things that I never said, To anybody else, I regret them.” She never told anyone else some of the things that she told him. She feels as though opening up to him is the reason that he left.
In the song she also says how “I lost a year, it’s strange… What if I took your call as more than just a call, As writing on the walls?” Lots of listeners can resonate with interpreting a relationship as more serious than it actually is.
Abrams’ bridges in her songs are memorable and full of emotion. “I love you, I’m sorry” portrays the emotionality of her album perfectly. The first two lines of the bridge say “You were the best but you were the worst. As sick as it sounds, I loved you first.” You can really feel the emotion when you listen to these lyrics about being sorry that she loved the person first.
Abrams’ songs are very relatable especially to people who have gone through heartbreak. She does an amazing job making you feel as though you are experiencing the lyrics. In her song “Tough Love” she says “And I’m not gonna miss his old inflated ego, shallow thinkin.” Her voice at this part of the song makes you feel as though you are experiencing the same feelings she is.
Abrams hit us with an unexpected type of song in this album. The song “Packing It Up” is about finding love when you least expect it. Her other songs in this album are not love songs so this was a shock. However, it fits perfectly with the rest of this album. This is because she uses similar vocals and instruments.
In the first part of the song she is wishing her past love a good life. She then finds someone when she least expects it. Abrams says “Got so damn close to packing it up, but that’s just when you happened.” She was ready to take a break from relationships when she finally found a good one when she least expected it.
This is my favorite album so far in Abrams’ career. Her deluxe album is full of much more emotion than her past albums are. Abram’s voice has also matured and gotten much better over time as she has learned more and has more experience.
Her songs in this album are so popular that people knew them before they officially were released. When she opened for Taylor Swift, she played sneak peaks of her upcoming album and the audience had already memorized the lyrics that they kept hearing all over the internet.
Abrams’ new songs in her deluxe album are outstanding. Her voice has only gotten better since previous albums and will only get better from here.
