Kentucky women’s basketball earned the No. 20 slot in the AP Top 25 poll for week two, moving up two spots.
Before the Kenny Brooks era even began, the Wildcats received a generous No. 22 ranking in the preseason polls, demonstrating high recognition after a transfer-heavy offseason.
The Cats have started the season with two dominant wins, defeating USC Upstate 98-43 and Northern Kentucky 70-41.
Clara Strack, who leads the team with 18.5 points per game, has shined early in her first two games as a Wildcat while Georgia Amoore, who transferred with Strack from Virginia Tech, is currently leading the SEC in assists per game.
Kentucky is thriving defensively, too, where Clara Silva is tied for second in the nation for blocks per game.
While the hot start for Kentucky continues, it will keep track of its fellow SEC opponents who are ranked as well.
No. 1 South Carolina, No. 4 Texas and No. 7 LSU didn’t shift spots in the AP Poll, however No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 19 Ole Miss both moved up one slot.
No. 22 Alabama rounded off the ranked SEC teams, bringing the total to seven.
Brooks and the Cats look ahead on their schedule, which features two ranked matchups within the coming weeks.
The Wildcats host No. 18 Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 16, in a marquee matchup inside Historic Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will air live on the SEC Network+.
If the Wildcats fail to knock off the Cardinals, they will have another chance to beat a ranked opponent when they face No. 14 North Carolina in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 5, inside Carmichael Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN2.
