No. 14 Kentucky volleyball (14-7, 8-2 SEC) defeated Georgia (9-11, 3-7 SEC) in a 3-0 sweep to finish its road trip a perfect 5-0.
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start leading 6-0 in the first set before Kentucky quickly closed the gap by going on a 5-0 run to slim the deficit. Both teams tied 9-9 before Georgia pushed through to gain a 15-11 lead.
The Cats tied it up again, but called a time after falling behind 23-22. After the time out, Kentucky regained the lead and took the first set 26-24.
In the second set, Kentucky changed the narrative, leading 4-0, which forced Georgia into its first timeout. After the timeout, Kentucky continued the lead 9-2 and pushed Georgia into another timeout.
After the second timeout, Kentucky still led 15-6 until Georgia started to close the gap pushing Kentucky into a timeout with its lead now 15-10. After the Cats’ timeout, they finished up the set, winning 25-15.
Kentucky continued momentum in the third set leading 14-11 before the media timeout. After the timeout, the Cats’ only continued to grow their lead 18-13.
After a bad set from Georgia, the lead grew to 20-14. Kentucky finished the set 25-16, securing a sweep victory against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye had an impressive 16 kills and was the only player from either team to have double-digit kills.
Emma Grome managed 40 assists, which was a new high for her this season in any three-set match.
Jordyn Dailey led defense with six blocks with two of the blocks being made on the final two points of the match.
Kentucky will return to the Bluegrass on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. ET at Historical Memorial Coliseum to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.
