Kentucky women’s soccer (10-2-4, 2-2-4 SEC) tied 0-0 against No. 11 Auburn (12-1-3, 4-1-3 SEC) at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on Friday evening.
The first half of the match was quiet for both the Wildcats and the Tigers as they remained scoreless after 45 minutes of play.
The Cats’ defense was dominant throughout the first half as they only gave up one shot to Auburn.
“Just from the first half to the second half performance, I thought we were way better in the first half,” said Kentucky Head Coach Troy Fabiano. “(In the) second half, we lost a little bit of rhythm.”
The first shot of the match for the Wildcats came in the sixth minute and was off target from Kentucky midfielder Catherine DeRosa.
In the 10th minute, Kentucky’s Maddie Kemp had a chance to take an early lead for the Cats but was rejected by Auburn goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska.
“As we get closer to the end of the season, it gets harder and harder to score goals,” said Fabiano.
Both defenses had a great night giving up only three shots on goal total, two for the Wildcats and one for the Tigers.
“I think defensively, especially our backboard, we did our job today,” said senior Makala Woods.
The Wildcats next matchup will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Starkville, Mississippi as they take on the No. 3 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
