Kentucky women’s soccer (9-1-3, 1-1-3 SEC) prepared to face LSU (7-5-1, 2-3-1 SEC) after getting its first SEC win of the season on the road against Alabama over the weekend.
The Tigers are led by midfielder Ida Hermannsdottir, who leads the team in goals (seven), points (14) and shots on goal (16).
The Tigers’ goalkeeper, Audur Scheving, has also made a big impact on the defensive end. Scheving is fifth in the SEC in saves with 39 and sixth in the SEC in saves per game with three.
LSU’s strength this season has been its offense. The Tigers are tied with Georgia for eighth in the SEC in goals (25) and ninth in goals per game (1.92). They are also ranked ninth in points (66) and tenth in assists (194).
Despite that, the Tigers have struggled on the defensive end. Even with the solid play from their goalie, the Tigers have still allowed the second most goals in the conference (21) and second most goals per game (1.62).
Kentucky’s offense could potentially exploit this with forwards Maddie Kemp and Makala Woods, who have combined for 10 out of the Cats’ 23 goals this season.
On the other side of the ball, the Cats’ defense has been solid, allowing the fourth least goals in total (seven) and per game (0.54) in the SEC this season.
The Cats will look to extend their unbeaten streak to four games against LSU this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
