Kentucky women’s golf finished 12th with a 2-under-par score of 862 in the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The competition saw the best field Kentucky has faced in the young season. Seven ranked opponents made up the field including Texas and South Carolina.
The Wildcats finished 29 strokes behind the winning team, Texas, which finished the tournament with a 31-under-par 833.
The Wildcats sent a young lineup down to Franklin, Tennessee, including three freshmen and two sophomores. Cathryn Brown and Brooke Oberparleiter showed their experience, finishing first and second for Kentucky.
Oberparleiter was the only Wildcat to have played in a previous Mason Rudolph Championship.
Brown and Oberparleiter finished with 13 and 12 birdies respectively. C.A. Carter, Elin Pudas Remler and Raleygh Simpson added 27 birdies for Kentucky to finish with 52 combined, which was good enough for ninth in combined birdies.
At the conclusion of day one, Kentucky was tied for tenth with Georgia Southern at 3-under-par.
Carter, Oberparleiter and Brown all carded 1-under-par while Pudas Remler and Simpson shot even and 3-over-par respectively.
Day two saw the Wildcats drop to 13th, sitting at 2-over-par.
Brown shot 1-under, Carter shot par, Oberparleiter shot 2-over and Pudas Remler and Simpson shot 4-under.
Day three was Kentucky’s best day of the tournament, shooting 4-under-par, which lifted it to 12th with a combined score of 2-under-par.
Brown had a career low on day three when she carded a 6-under-par score of 66 with seven birdies. On the front nine, she birdied four holes while she birdied three on the back nine, moving her up to finish in 11th on the individual leaderboard with an 8-under-par 208.
Oberparleiter shot a 1-over-par 73, Carter shot a 4-over-par 76, Pudas Remler shot 1-over with a score of 73 and Simpson posted an even 72 with four birdies.
The Wildcats will return to action Friday, Oct. 11, at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational hosted by the North Carolina Tar Heels at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
