Kentucky Men’s Soccer (1-2-3) reached a 0-0 draw with Georgia Southern Friday night to open conference play at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex
Kentucky entered the match seeking its first win of the season since August 22 after reaching three draws and suffering two losses. Most recently, the Cats had drawn Lipscomb on the road in Nashville on Saturday.
In a tightly-contested battle, things started to get out of hand around the 40 minute mark as both teams began playing chippy with multiple yellow cards being shown to the visitors.
Regardless, the first half ended with both teams deadlocked.
Disaster struck for the home team in the second half as Kentucky’s No. 5 Joel Gonzalez suffered an injury on a play he was shown a yellow card for. This play was quickly followed by another yellow to Kentucky’s Eoin Martin and another on the Georgia Southern bench.
Ultimately, neither side was able to find the back of the net and the match ended 0-0, marking the Cats’ second straight draw.
Kentucky will return to action on Friday, Sept. 27, on the road against West Virginia. That match will kick off at 7 p.m. ET.
