Kentucky volleyball kicked off its season strong with five strong wins and two competitive losses.
Thus far, many players on the team have made an impact during game play and have stepped up when times have gotten tough, however, there are three players that have been particularly bright shining stars during the Wildcats’ start to their competitive time on the court this season.
Erin Lamb
The 6-foot, 3-inch outside hitter from Minnesota continued to shine bright as soon as she put on that Kentucky jersey and stepped on to the court.
Although the Cats suffered a tough loss to No. 7 Penn State at home recently, Lamb in the first set alone executed an ace, a block, two digs and a kill.
The senior has always been a key to success for the Cats as she finished her sophomore season with an average of 2.67 kills per set.
Molly Tuozzo
As a libero and defensive specialist, Tuozzo is a consistent player to count on on the court.
The sophomore took the spotlight in Memorial Coliseum on Sept. 1 when the Cats defeated Morehead State 3-0.
During the match, Tuozzo tied her career high in digs, executing 16 throughout the entirety of the match.
Last season as only a freshman, Tuozzo was the leading ace-getter for Kentucky with 0.3 aces per game while also executing 2.20 digs per set.
The All-SEC Freshman Team member is only going to set records for the Cats in the years to follow.
Brooklyn DeLeye
Kentucky volleyball dominated the Bluegrass Battle with exceptional help from sophomore DeLeye.
To kick off the Bluegrass Battle versus Northern Kentucky, DeLeye had two back-to-back aces.
The outside hitter continued to shine as she tied her career high with 25 kills throughout the match versus Western Kentucky.
DeLeye continued to dominate with her serves as she, again, scored two aces against Morehead State.
The sophomore from Kansas secured SEC Freshman of the Week for four consecutive weeks her freshman year, then concluded the year by winning SEC Freshman of the Year.
The Cats will look to push forward on the year on Wednesday, Sept. 18, against the Louisville Cardinals.
