After forgoing his senior season, Kentucky defensive back Andru Phillips heard his name called in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft as he was selected by the New York Giants.
Phillips came to Lexington as a three-star recruit out of Mauldin High School in South Carolina and chose Kentucky over several other SEC schools including the likes of Tennessee and Georgia.
After a true freshman year where he saw little action on his way to an eventual redshirt, Phillips would appear in nine games in redshirt freshman year and would total three tackles.
In his subsequent sophomore campaign, Phillips would make the leap and appear in all 13 games, notching four starts as he recorded 31 tackles and was tied for second on the team in defended passes with five.
Phillips would make the jump to starter his junior season, starting all 12 games that he played in as he set career highs in almost every stat on his way to earning an invitation to both the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the 2024 NFL Combine.
At the combine, Phillips would record a 4.48 40-yard dash and would put up impressive numbers in other drills in a performance that many believed would earn him a selection on day two of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Now heading to New York, Phillips will join the likes of LSU’s Malik Nabers and Minnesota’s Tyler Nubin — as well as former teammate and Kentucky Wildcat Wan’Dale Robinson.
