Electric vehicle (EV) company Polestar has two models in its current lineup, the Polestar 1 and the Polestar 2. So, it makes sense that an upcoming EV from the company is called the Polestar 5. It won’t be the company’s next EV, however. That honor goes to the Polestar 3, keeping the numeric order in place. But the new 5 will be based on the Polestar Precept concept car that was first unveiled in the spring of 2020. Thanks to a preview video from the company, we now know a bit more about what to expect from the upcoming sleek sedan.

Polestar is showcasing new images of the still-evolving 5 as part of a short documentary series about the Precept concept. Episode 3, which focuses on the exterior design of the concept EV, offers a few glimpses of what the production version of the Polestar 5 will look like. It also sheds light on some of the thoughts and processes that are going into its design.

Inspiration for the Precept concept came from non-car objects like radios and cameras, architecture, and airplanes, Polestar senior exterior designer Nahum Escobedo said in the video. The project was meant to deliver an elegant EV while also looking fast, sort of like a shark, Escobedo said. The front end of the concept is even called the “shark nose.” Some of the design features from the 5 will be seen on the Polestar 3, as well.

“With the Precept documentary series, we are intentionally doing something car companies usually don’t—going behind the scenes transparently as we turn this stunning concept car into production reality,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said in a statement. “It makes me very proud to see how much of the concept car’s design is making it into the Polestar 5—a great achievement by our designers and engineers alike.”

Before the Polestar 5 arrives, Polestar will launch the Polestar 3 in 2022. That new model will be an electric SUV that should be around the size of a Volvo XC90 and is essentially the SUV version of the Polestar 2, which is available for sale now. Following the launch of the 3, the Polestar 4 will arrive as an all-electric model that’s a bit smaller than the 3 but with a coupe-like shape. Media reports say that the 3 and the 5 will both use the SPA2 platform, while the 4 will use a different platform designed by parent company Geely.
