A UK student was shot outside a a bar and taken to UK Hospital Friday morning.

Police said they responded to a call at 1:47 a.m. to Silks Lounge, 125 North Mill St., for shots fired.

Lt. Mark Brand said when police arrived they began to figure out what happened, but the gunman was gone and junior geology major Jerrad Grider had been struck by one of the shots.

“The subject had been asked to leave the premises and after he was invited to leave the premises, he turned around and fired two shots into the building,” Brand said. “That’s what struck one of the occupants (of Silks Lounge).”

Grider was taken to the hospital, “and the investigation is still ongoing at this time,” he said.
