A forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Memorial Hall to give students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the SGA presidential candidates and their platforms.

The event, sponsored by the Panhellenic Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council, will be structured differently than the Greek Political Action Committee debates that have taken place in years past.

“We’re not necessarily putting on the event to support one candidate over the other,” said India Land, Panhellenic Council president. “It will be more of a learning experience for voters.”

Upon entering Memorial Hall, students will be provided a card on which they can write down questions they have for the candidates.

Following the candidates’ opening statements, the moderator will select and ask questions until all have been exhausted.

Candidates will also be allowed to make closing remarks. Buck Ryan, UK journalism professor, will serve as moderator for the second year in a row.

Although the Panhellenic and National Pan-Hellenic Councils are Greek organizations, all students are encouraged to attend.

“We are stepping back and making it just a student-run forum,” Land said. “That way, people who are non-Greek can reap the same benefits as Greeks, especially since there are both Greek and non-Greek candidates.”
