First lady Michelle Obama will deliver commencement addresses at several universities this spring, including Eastern Kentucky University.

Obama will be speaking at EKU as part of her Joining Forces initiative because of the university’s outstanding record supporting veterans and military families, according to a White House news release.

“Joining Forces is a comprehensive national initiative to mobilize all sectors of society to give our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned,” says the initiative’s website.

According to the release, EKU is home to more than 1,275 veterans and their families and has received national recognition for being a military-friendly university, including being ranked 16th among the 2013 “Best for Vets: Business Schools” by Military Times EDGE magazine.

Obama will speak on May 11 at 7:30 p.m. during the last of three ceremonies of the day.
