Two UK volleyball players received SEC honors for their efforts in a week that saw the Cats take down No. 4 University of Minnesota and in-state rivals Louisville.

Senior outside hitter Whitney Billings received SEC Player of the Week while freshman outside hitter Anni Thomasson tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week.

Billings was instrumental in her team’s success against Louisville, as she recording 11 digs to put her over the 1,000-dig mark for her career.

Earlier this season, Billings reached 1,000 kills, making her the only UK player in the rally era to eclipse 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.

In the upset over Minnesota, Billings led the Cats in kills with 25, to go along with 12 digs in the match.

Billings’ .467 hitting percentage was the highest of her career for a match in which she registered more than 15 kills.

Thomasson started the week with a career-best 13-kill, 16-dig showing against Louisville in a five-set victory.

Against Minnesota, Thomasson nabbed her fourth double-double in five games with her 10-kill, 10-dig performance.

Thomasson is on a four-game streak of recording double-digit digs and is earning 2.58 points per game, which ranks third on the team.

The Cats will return to action on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a match against Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., which will air live on ESPN3.com.
