After months of speculation and anticipation UK Hoops head coach Matthew Mitchell has done it again joining forces with the music of James Brown and Britney Spears to create a spectacle at Big Blue Madness.
In one of the most anticipated practice in the country, Mitchell and the UK Hoops squad took the court amidst banging music and flashing lights for their first official practice of the season.
Mitchell started the show by coming out in a lavish ‘80s outfit accompanied by an afro and James Brown’s “Get UP Offa That Thing.” As he descended onto the court to a lively Rupp Arena crowd, he performed the splits before a quick outfit change and a jump ahead in time. James Brown was replaced by Britney Spears and instantly every ‘90s kid began to tap their foot along.
Mitchell then introduced the 2013-14 UK Hoops squad, leading the crowd in a roaring blue-white chant before commencing the scrimmage.
During the scrimmage freshman guard Makayla Epps grabbed three steals and in turn three easy buckets. While junior Azia Bishop grabbed a steal and had two more baskets.
UK Hoops will see their first game action Nov. 5 against Eckerd College.
