The author of this year’s Common Reading Experience book, Kelsey Timmerman, will answer students’ and attendants’ questions on Tuesday about his book, “Where Am I Wearing?”
Timmerman will be on campus at 7 p.m. at the Singletary Center.
Timmerman’s storytelling is dedicated to addressing global issues and initiating dialogue about how to improve the world economy, according to the book’s website. In the book, he chronicles his world travels to find out where his clothes came from and tells the stories of the people that made them.
Annie Kelly, the assistant director of UK’s New Student and Parent Programs, said in an email to the Kernel she is excited for his visit.
“It will continue to enhance that collective and unified experience for the first-year students,” Kelly said.
A collection committee of UK faculty, staff and current students chose the book as this year’s CRE because the book is intellectually stimulating and engaging, as well as its ability to provoke interesting discussion and address a topic that would be applicable to a wide range of students.
“Where Am I Wearing?” is also included in the curriculum of UK classes, such as UK 101: Academic Orientation, WRD 110: Composition and Communication I and CIS 111: Composition and Communication II.
Kelly said the lecture will give students the chance to reflect and process the message of the book on a deeper and more personal level.
According to the Office of New Student and Parent Programs, the CRE strives to unite each incoming class at UK through a shared intellectual exploration of a single book.
Kelly said the turnout for this year’s lecture is promising due to the positive reviews the book received.
