At about 1:30 p.m., the National Weather Service posted that snow would continue to fall through Monday evening, mainly in Central Kentucky.

The snowfall would range from four to nine inches over Southern Indiana, to 12 to 16 inches over portions of East Central Kentucky.

A Winter Storm Warning remained in effect until 1 a.m. on Tuesday, with the heaviest snowfall expected Monday afternoon.

According to an email from Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts, the Lexington Police Department recommended Monday morning that all non-essential persons stay off the roads.

At 4:30 p.m., Lexington Police stated that they had responded to 34 non-injury collisions, five injury collisions and 293 requests for assistance from motorists.

The National Weather Service advised that many Kentucky roads would be treacherous, and some nearly impossible to navigate. It recommended that drivers travel with an emergency kit of food, water, blankets and flashlights.

UK spokesman Jay Blanton said that students who experience emergencies on campus tomorrow should contact the UK Police Department.
