Musical numbers and genetically modified dinosaurs will be on the big screen in Memorial Hall on Thursday as the Late Night Film Series showcases the films “Jurassic World” and “Selena.”
“Jurassic World” brought in $204 million on its opening weekend according to the Internet Movie Database. It is the fourth film in the “Jurassic Park” series, which is about scientists who engineer genetically modified dinosaurs to create a theme park.
“Selena” is about Mexican-American singer-songwriter Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who was killed at the age of 23 by the former president of her fan club.
Memorial Hall is serving as the new home of LNFS this year as construction on the new Student Center continues.
“We’re still not sure what to expect from movie-to-movie this semester, but if earlier films have been any indication, the number for ‘Jurassic World’ should be in the hundreds”, said Zach Lamb, the graduate assistant for LNFS.
The LNFS get their early-release movies from college distributors as well as independent creators and studios.
“Our Friday night films complement our Thursday night films,” Lamb said. “Our 7 p.m. films are also part of our many sub-series. We try to choose films for Thursday nights like Jurassic World that will excite and draw in the most students while also maintaining consistent artistic quality.”
“Selena” plays at 7 p.m. Thursday and “Jurassic World” at 10 p.m.
