Cats overcome double digit deficit for overtime win

No.17 UK traveled to Tempe, Ariz., to take on the team’s first ranked opponent, No. 15 Arizona State. The Cats came back from a double digit deficit in the first half to force overtime, where they prevailed over the Sun Devils 68-64.

The team was lead by junior Makayla Epps in her first game of the season. In her first game back after serving her one-game suspension, the guard led the team in points with 20 and also scored the go-ahead basket for the Cats with under a minute left in the game.

The Cats comeback was in part thanks to the solid third quarter in which the Cats outscored the Sun Devils 21-10. Senior Janee Thompson fueled the team’s comeback effort, leading the team by contributing seven of her 11 points and two of her four assists in the third quarter.

Also in the game, the Cats lost the rebounding battle 38-40, but junior Evelyn Akhator was able to continue her hot streak on the boards as she was the only player in the game able to secure double digit rebounds. She finished with four offensive rebounds and ten total.

This was also UK’s first road game and with the win, the team improves to 2-0 on the season.
