Zeus, a young White German Shepherd male who has been missing for about a day, was returned to his caretakers after walking into the Kentucky Kernel newsroom.

The dog was last seen at 6 p.m. Saturday around the Good Samaritan Hospital when he “bolted out of his collar and took off,” according to a Facebook page about the dog.

Kentucky Kernel design adviser May May Barton and design editor Damir Kocer found the dog outside the Grehan Journalism Building on UK’s campus at about noon Monday.

“He was sitting at the top of the stairs by the door because there was a little crack of warm air coming out,” Kocer said.

Zeus’ owner, Carlos Sandfoss, a UK ER physician, died earlier this week. Barton said she saw the dog, but initially did not think much of it.

“(Then I said), ‘Wait, a minute, I’m pretty sure that’s the dog that’s lost in Lexington,” Barton said.

Zeus is now back with his caretakers.

Correction: Zeus went missing on Sunday, not Monday.
