Ulis named one of 10 finalists for Bob Cousy Award
February 1, 2016
Sophomore point guard Tyler Ulis was named a finalist for the 2016 Bob Cousy Award.
The award is given out annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the top point guard in Division I men’s basketball. If he wins Ulis would be the first UK player to receive the award.
Ulis is averaging 16.1 points and 6.2 assists per game on the season and has recently taken up a larger scoring role for the team with 20 or more points in eight of the last 10 games.
The guard out of Chicago has set himself apart in the college basketball landscape being the only player in the SEC and one of five across the nation with averages of 16 points and six assists or more per game.
Ulis has shined when on the big stage, averaging a team-best 21.7 points and a team-high 7.3 assists in UK’s three games against ranked opponents. Most recently, Ulis turned in a career-high 26 points and eight assists against No. 4 Kansas over the weekend.
The sophomore has also been placed on midseason watch lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the John R. Wooden Award, two other widely known player of the year awards.
