Suspect’s trial for murder of a UK chef begins

News Staff

On Monday, the trial of a suspect in the 2013 murder of a UK chef began.

Mark Taylor is on trial for the murder of Alex Johnson who was a UK chef. Johnson’s body was found in a barrel in the Kentucky River in January 2014, according to WKYT

Possible jurors were asked questions by attorneys to remove bias during the trial on Monday morning.

After opening statements began Monday afternoon, Johnson’s mother took the stand and told the court about how she and her family posted flyers around town after Johnson went missing and discussed hiring a private detective to aid in the search for her son.

Timothy Ballard, who took a plea deal and admitted his involvement in the case, is expected to testify against Taylor in court.

WKYT reported that police said Taylor and Ballard are accused of luring Johnson to a car, beating him to death and dumping his body in the Kentucky River.

Testimony is set to continue at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
