Man dies after shooting early Thursday morning

WKYT reports the victim, Douglas Jordan, 27, died from the gunshot wound to his head Saturday. This is Lexington’s tenth homicide in 2016. No arrests have been made in the case.

At about 4 p.m. on Thursday, UK Police sent out a public safety notice to all of campus. 

The notice, sent via email, is in regards to a shooting that happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. The email said a male victim was shot on East Maxwell Street near Linden Walk as he was walking with a female. The male has serious injuries. 

The email said a witness reported three suspects approached the victim and the female from behind. This number was later revised to one according to a report from the Lexington Herald-Leader. No arrests have been made. 

Lexington Division of Police are investigating the shooting, according to the email. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lexington Division of Police at 859-258-3600.

UK Police offered in the email the following safety precautions to campus in case of emergencies: 

  • If you see something, say something. For emergencies, call 911.
  • Carry a cell phone to be able to call for help in emergencies.
  • Do not travel alone after dark; walk with a friend or with a group.
  • Whenever possible, look out for your friends when you go out together; walk together and make sure that everyone gets home safely.
  • Park in well-lit areas when possible.
  • Turn over any requested items (purse, wallet, etc.).
  • Make statements with authority – “BACK-OFF! STOP! NO-WAY!” You deserve to be respected.
