Defensive tackle Regie Meant leaving program

Junior defensive tackle Regie Meant is leaving the football program indefinitely, Coach Mark Stoops announced Monday. He said that Meant would be leaving the program due to personal reasons.

Meant, a native of Cape Coral, Fl., had 31 tackles and a sack a year ago for UK and was expected to start this year along the defensive front.

With the loss of Meant, the depth of the Cats’ front seven, now takes a hit early into camp. It will be imperative moving forward that someone along the line steps up in place of Meant to fill the void left by the junior.

“Right now we got a collaboration of guys (to replace Meant), we’ve developed three new starts every year we’ve been here so here is just another opportunity for some other guys,” defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh said.

Looking forward, younger players along the front seven may be thrust into a position in which they’ll need to produce results if they want to see consistent playing time.

Regardless, the loss of Meant is not to be understated.
