Trump rolls back transgender protections in school bathrooms

The Trump administration released new guidelines on Wednesday that retracts anti-discrimination protections that allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their gender identity.

With the new order, schools will no longer be required to enforce previous legislation that allows transgender students to use the bathroom of their gender identity. According to The New York Times, President Trump and several conservative officials overruled education secretary, Betsy DeVos, who opposed the change.

The order, while leaving transgender students unprotected from bathroom discrimination, does include a statement requiring schools to protect transgender students from bullying.
