A significant majority of U.S. colleges reported zero incidents of rape in 2015 according to an analysis of U.S. Department of Education data by the American Association of University Women. But that doesn’t mean no rapes occurred. 

Around 80 percent of victims of campus rape don’t report their assault to police, and according to other studies, over one in five students said they had experienced sexual abuse.

The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 requires that public schools must disclose information on rape, stalking and domestic violence to the government. But with the downplaying of assaults and fear of reprisal for victims, schools need to work harder in reaching out to those who have been or could be assaulted.
