Don’t forget to send a thank you note

In this day and age, they seem like a lost art, but written thank you notes can give you a leg up in the professional world.

In high school, I attended a summer program called the Governor’s Scholars Program. During GSP, I had multiple teachers talk about the importance of sending thank you notes. These notes can show you truly care about the position or opportunity you have been given, they said.

Thank you notes also make you stand out above others. Like I said before, for many, thank you notes are becoming lost in everyday life. Not many of your peers will think to send them.

So, when should you send a thank you note? The most appropriate times to send thank you notes are when you finish an interview for a job or when you leave a job. These will help your employer remember you. Other great times to send thank you notes are when a co-worker does something that you appreciate. Ultimately, it is up to you if you want to write a thank you note. If you naturally think of it, the note will seem more sincere.

Writing the note is usually better than emailing it, but it is also not the easiest way to get it to the recipient. Have a set of blank notes cards.

Thank you notes are a great way to show how much you appreciate someone.
