The UK women’s volleyball team continued their great start to the season on Saturday by sweeping Cincinnati 3-0.

The victory meant that the Cats won the Bluegrass Battle, finishing the tournament record with a 3-0 record. The Cats also defeated Arkansas State and Utah in the weekend tournament.

The Cats’ highlight of the night was the performance of their rotations and the execution of their kills, they were sharp and unstoppable.

The first set started with a block from Avery Skinner and Emily Franklin, but the Bearcats kept the score close early on.

At one point, UK led 20-18 and neither team had gained an advantage yet. However, Anna Nyberg posted three kills in a row, which widen the lead for the Cats and pushed them to win the first set.

In the second set, the Cats faced more adversity from the Bearcats as they were down so much as 19-16. However, the Cats were not giving up easily and big time plays from Kaz Brown, Lead Edmond and Nyberg allowed the Cats to stay within reach of the Bears and tie the set at 20.

Edmond especially showcased her leadership throughout the match but in this particular set she had the kill that won the set.

Going into the third set needing just one more set-win to win the match, the defense for UK was able to put up more blocks on the net than Cincinnati which led to their match win.

The offense also performed well as Nyberg showed up big time with seven kills in the third set.

The Cats will take their undefeated record with them when they compete in the Creighton Tournament on September 1st.
