Lexington Police say they have made an arrest in connection to a shooting at the Newtown Crossing Apartment complex near UK’s campus yesterday.

When police arrived to the scene of the shooting at the 800 block of Foreman Ave. Wednesday officers reportedly found a man suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to police.

Police say witnesses at the scene identified 35-year-old Jeffrey Morris as the suspect, and officers were able to apprehend Morris nearby on Winne Street.

After the incident, Newtown Crossing released a statement to its residents stating neither Morris or the victim of the shooting were residents at the apartment complex.

It’s still unclear what prompted the shooting, but Morris has been charged with assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence. Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact police at (859) 258-3600.
