The 2025 indoor season came to an end for the Kentucky Wildcats track and field team. The Cats traveled to Virginia Beach to compete in the NCAA Championship races.
On day one, sophomore Kate Powers finished 15th in the women’s weight throw final event in her first national indoor appearance. Powers earned second-team All American honors, which was her second postseason award.
Kentucky’s 200-meter holder, Carlie Makarawu tied his lifetime best time of 20.20, placing first in the men’s 200-meter preliminary event, which allowed him to advance to the final.
The SEC silver medalist, Auburn’s Makanakaishe Charamba, is the nation’s current 200 leader by a hundredth of a second to take the number one spot. Makarawu and Charamba will face off in the 200-meter final on day two.
Ending day one of the 2025 indoor season, day two events will start with the women’s 4-by-400-meter relay team: Hannah Douglas, Cha’iel Johnson, Oneika McAnnuff and Stacey Onyepunuka.
On day two of the 2024-25 indoor season NCAA championship races, the Kentucky track and field team earned its first gold medal of the competition and had two national scorers in the indoor championships.
The men’s team for the Wildcats placed 16th with a total of 15 points while the women’s team finished 50th place in the team standings with two points.
The women’s 4-by-400-meter relay team received seventh place of a time of 3:30.59. With that time and placement, the four Wildcats earned a national scorer honor and First Team All-American honors.
Junior Luke Brown finished the season with the nation’s second-best distance; he placed fourth in the men’s triple jump with a 16.33-meter/53-7. With Brown’s finish, he received a national scorer honor and First Team All-American honors.
After Makarawu won on day one in the 200-meter race, he was ready for day two championship race. He finished with a record time of 20.13, which is his personal best and Kentucky’s 200-meter record. Just right behind him was Auburn’s Charamba, who finished second in the championship race.
The 2024-2025 indoor season comes to an end, but the 2025 outdoor season will begin on Mar. 21-22 in Orlando at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex.
