No. 19 Kentucky men’s basketball crushed the LSU Tigers 95-64 in Rupp Arena on Tuesday night in the Cats’ final home game of the season.
The game doubled as UK’s senior night, with the halftime lead of 27 points marking the largest halftime advantage on senior day since 1995.
Prior to the tipoff, Kentucky honored six seniors as Jaxson Robinson, Lamont Butler, Amari Williams, Koby Brea, Andrew Carr and Ansley Almonor have run out of collegiate eligibility and will be departing the program at the end of the season. Fifth-year senior Kerr Kriisa was not honored as he is pursuing a medical redshirt and another year of college basketball.
From the opening tip off the game itself was never close.
After the Tigers scored the opening basket, a quick 10-0 Wildcat run crushed any chance of LSU competition.
Before long, the lead would grow to 17 before LSU could even reach 17 total points. From there, the question went from whether or not LSU could pull off the upset to how badly the Tigers would be bested.
By halftime, the gap was 27 points as UK had 50, on pace to score 100, and LSU had just 23.
Back out for the second half, things didn’t get better for the Tigers, who quickly found themselves down by 30+.
This theme would stay consistent throughout the night as Kentucky had its way with one of the worst teams in the conference.
With just over six minutes to go, the lead was at 31 with UK scoring 81.
The Cats would ultimately win by a final margin of 31 points.
Kentucky will end its regular season on the road against No. 15 Missouri on Saturday, March 8, at noon ET from Mizzou Arena. The game will air live on ESPN.
