Ahead of No. 17 Kentucky’s matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday night, Wildcat guards Lamont Butler (shoulder) and Jaxson Robinson (wrist) have been listed as “probable” on the initial SEC availability report.
Butler and Robinson have missed three combined games together, and, with their absence, Kentucky structured a 1-2 record, avenging Vanderbilt at home while dropping two road games at Texas and No. 4 Alabama.
Butler, one of the sharpest all-around players on Mark Pope’s inaugural UK squad, has missed three games since re-injuring his shoulder in Kentucky’s 75-64 win over the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers on Feb. 11.
Having Butler back will boost Kentucky’s defensive efforts, as he has proven to be one of the most influential players on UK’s back end, averaging a team-high 1.8 steals per game while staying adjacent with some of the nation’s best guards in the SEC.
On offense, Butler is putting up 12.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, shooting 50.9% from the field and 38.5% from deep.
Robinson, who injured his wrist in practice on Feb. 7, played 20 minutes against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Feb. 8, however, the BYU transfer did miss UK’s next four games after that.
The one game that Robinson missed while Butler did play was at home against No. 5 Tennessee on Feb. 11.
Robinson is averaging 13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 43.2% shooting from the field and 38.1% shooting from deep.
With the two listed as “probable,” Kentucky’s chances of knocking off the Sooners has definitely increased, while its hopes in the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament have taken a leap as well.
Tipoff for the Wildcats’ date with Oklahoma is set for 9 p.m. ET and can be viewed on the SEC Network.
