Kentucky fans will have a never before seen look into UK football and the SEC during the 2024 season across an eight part docu-series that will air on Netflix.
Netflix announced in a release that, “Whether you’re a die-hard college-football fan or haven’t paid attention to it since you were in college yourself, an upcoming show will immerse you in the glories of the game.”
Netflix has branched into the sports world before with several NFL centered docu-series like “Quarterback” and “Receiver,” which focus on particular players and gave fans a behind-the-curtain look into the lives of players on and off the field.
College football has gotten a taste of the spotlight as well for some of its most iconic teams and players like the storied late 2000’s Florida dynasty that was featured in a four-episode series called “Untold: Swamp Kings.”
When it comes to players, “Untold: Johnny Football” told the roller coaster story that was Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M.
In a release, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey told Netflix, “This behind-the-scenes docu-series will bring all the drama and pageantry of Southeastern Conference Football to a worldwide Netflix audience.”
Despite this, Seth Emerson of The Athletic reported that Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas all passed on being a part of the docu-series. Along with those teams, On3 Sports reported that Missouri also passed on the opportunity.
Kentucky football certainly had its fair share of stories and shortcomings throughout this past season and the series may spotlight some of those and give more insight to what it was like behind closed doors.
From a full conference perspective, it was a very eventful year with everything from iconic games to new teams joining and this series set to debut in summer of 2025 will give fans and viewers a new look at one of the most prominent conferences in college football.
