No. 3 seed Kentucky volleyball (23-7, 14-2 SEC) defeated No. 7 seed Missouri (22-9, 11-5 SEC) 3-1 to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Brooklyn DeLeye led the Cats with 22 kills along with Megan Wilson contributing 13 kills as well.
Missouri started the match off with a steady lead, however a 3-0 run by Kentucky gave it their first lead of the set, a lead that it would not lose for the rest of set one.
After a kill from Wilson, the Wildcats were the first to 15 leading 15-12, and they closed the set on a 5-1 run that saw them win set one 25-20 after a Brooke Bultema kill.
The second set started off with the Cats in control for a short period before Missouri tied the set at 6-6. This tie was short lived however as Kentucky took back a 9-8 lead and it went on a 5-0 run that saw kills from both DeLeye and Wilson.
The Cats led by as many as eight in the second set, however after trailing 21-13, the Tigers responded with a 4-0 run to keep things interesting.
Jordyn Dailey shut down the Tigers’ momentum with a pair of kills and Kentucky won the set 25-20 after another kill from DeLeye.
Now down 2-0 in the match, the Tigers found themselves drowning and needed to respond fast if they wanted to stay alive.
The third set was neck and neck to start with Missouri leading 5-4. However, Missouri turned the match on its head, erupting on a 10-0 run that saw them take a 15-4 lead.
The Cats did their best to stop the bleeding, but it was no use as Missouri had a response to every Kentucky attack, winning the third set in dominant fashion 25-16.
The Wildcats put the third set behind them quickly by getting out to a 10-5 lead to start the fourth set.
The Cats killed Missouri with consistency as the Tigers were unable to string together consecutive points at any point in what would be the final set of the match.
It was a well-rounded group effort that finally took down the Tigers for good as Kentucky dominated set four 25-13, winning the match 3-1.
With the win, the Wildcats will take on No.1 seeded Pittsburgh at Fitzgerald Field House on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. ET.
