Kentucky men’s basketball guard Kerr Kriisa was declared out for an indefinite amount of time on Sunday evening after sustaining a foot injury.
Kriisa sustained the injury midway through the second half of Kentucky’s 90-89 overtime win over No. 7 Gonzaga inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Kriisa was playing a higher role within the Cats’ roster due to an injury suffered by Lamont Butler earlier in the week at Clemson.
Kentucky announced that the foot injury would require surgery, though hopes are that the injury will not be season ending.
“Surgery is set to happen in the coming days, and while the injury is not considered to be season-ending, he will be out indefinitely,” UK said in a statement.
Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman later added additional context, saying that Kriisa had suffered a Jones fracture in his foot, which holds a recovery time of up to six weeks assuming no complications. This timeframe would call for a mid-to-late-January return.
Kriisa transferred to Kentucky from West Virginia and has averaged 4.4 points per game with 3.8 assists in 17.3 minutes per game.
Against Gonzaga, Kriisa finished with eight points and four assists, playing 27 minutes before going down.
