Former Wildcat Anthony Davis, responsible for breaking the single-season blocks record at Kentucky, has started off the current NBA season with a historic run.
After a 38-point outburst against the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 1, Davis joined Shaquille O’Neal as the only player in Lakers franchise history to average 30+ points per game, 10+ rebounds per game and 2+ blocks per game through the first six contests of the season.
To continue his dominance, the former National Player of the Year has had four games with 30 or more points since then, recently dropping 40 points on the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, Nov. 15, and 31 points on the team who selected him No.1 overall out of Kentucky, the New Orleans Pelicans, on Saturday, Nov. 16.
He currently averages 30.7 points per game, which ranks second among the entire league. Along with his explosive scoring, Davis also averages 11.4 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game.
Davis, who has gained a reputation for being “injury-prone” his entire career, has been proving the critics wrong. Since the beginning of the 2023-24 NBA season, Davis has only missed seven games.
Now, having played in 12 out of the 13 Lakers games this season, his contributions have led to an active six-game win streak.
The Lakers currently hold the third best record in the Western Conference at 10-4, still undefeated on their home court.
Alongside NBA legend LeBron James, Davis will look ahead on the schedule as they play two straight inside of the Crypto.com Arena and hope to advance further in group play for the in-season tournament.
To revisit the 2023-24 season, the Lakers took down the Pacers to win the first NBA Cup in league history. Davis, showing what coach John Calipari taught him, put up 40 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks.
The 2012 NCAA Championship winner and the Los Angeles Lakers will take the court next against the Orlando Magic, hoping to return to their championship state of mind. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21.
