Kentucky men’s golf finished the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in eighth place with a par score of 864 among the 14 competing schools.
Kentucky Head Coach Gator Todd’s six-man lineup consisted of redshirt senior Jansen Preston, junior Jack Schoenberger, redshirt sophomore Solomon Petrie, freshmen Jacob Lang and Jacob Settles and sophomore Michael Hake.
The school that came out on top in the two-day tournament in Loxley, Alabama was No. 12 Illinois with a 30-under-par 834 as a team.
Back to the Wildcats, Preston finished T18 at three-under for the tournament, with this finish Kentucky has had an individual top 20 finish in all five fall events this year.
Also from the Wildcats, the double Jacob duo of Settles and Lang also shared a great second round performance. Settles and Lang both shot career lows in round two with scores of 70 and 68 respectively.
Speaking of career lows, Hake posted a career low 69 at the end of round two.
However, round one wasn’t as nice of a story as round two. The Wildcats as a team shot 27 bogeys and four double bogeys to rival the 17 birdies they had in round one.
One bright spot to come out of round one was Preston finishing at par 72 and Settles shooting one of only two eagles the Cats had in the tournament.
By the end of day one, Wildcat golfers could be found all over the leaderboard with Lang tying for first at one point on day one and Petrie finishing the day T68.
As a team, Kentucky had a 575 total score, which was good for seventh after two rounds on day one.
Day two of play in Alabama was where the third and final round of golf in the Wildcats fall season were played.
Lang, the freshman from Alvaton Ky, was the only Wildcat to move up the leaderboard on day three moving up from T38 to T37 when it was all said and done.
Schoenberger shot his third straight round 73 (+1) to end the day and the fall portion of the season.
The scorecard showed Kentucky’s final individual scores with Preston at T18 (-3), Lang finishing T37 (+1), Settles T41 (+2), Schoenberger T43 (+3), Hake at T60 (+8) and Petrie rounding it out finishing 76th place (+16).
Kentucky will now look toward its spring season, which starts in February.
The spring season will begin at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City, Fla. on Monday, Feb. 17 through Wednesday Feb. 19.
