Kentucky football is set to match up with Auburn after suffering a blowout loss to Florida on the road.
The Cats return home to Kroger Field on Saturday, desperately trying to get back in the win column.
With that in mind, some possible major changes to the starting lineup may give UK a better chance to do so.
Brock Vandagriff came into this season giving Kentucky fans hope. Fans had high expectations of the former five-star recruit, hoping he’d take the program back to the level it had been at while Will Levis was under center. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
Vandagriff has struggled under center, leading the Cats to a miserable 3-4 record through seven games. He has averaged just over 159 yards per game, which is simply not going to cut it in the SEC.
Along with his lack of passing yards, Vandagriff has only thrown six touchdowns, while throwing four interceptions. His mediocre play has led to a catastrophic season for the team, as its bowl-game hopes are very much in question.
It’s time for Kentucky to look to another quarterback on its roster… and it’s not Gavin Wimsatt.
Wimsatt struggled as a starter while at Rutgers and, like Vandagriff, couldn’t find a way to consistently move the ball through the air efficiently.
It’s time for Kentucky to turn to its true freshman quarterback: Lexington’s own Cutter Boley.
Although Boley didn’t have a great showing in garbage time against Florida, he is most likely Kentucky’s future QB after this season. With this season already in shambles, there’s no reason UK shouldn’t give the kid a shot.
Boley has the build of an NFL quarterback, standing at 6-foot-5, and a cannon of an arm as he showcased, taking a few deep shots at the end of last week’s game.
In high school, he was a highly-sought-after prospect, receiving offers from the likes of Alabama, Mississippi State, Penn State, Nebraska, Oregon, Miami (FL) and a few other big-name schools.
His ability to air the ball out is noteworthy as he amassed 2,187 yards for 24 touchdowns in 11 games his senior year.
Boley did have an issue with throwing interceptions, however, as he threw nine to opposing teams last season. He already has thrown one in college, as his first attempt ever was taken back for a pick six.
In the end, this team is plummeting fast, and with some big matchups ahead, Vandagriff’s mediocrity most likely will not help Kentucky back into the win column. It’s time for Stoops to make changes within the team, starting at the quarterback position.
If this year is ultimately a bust, why not start preparing for next year?

I agree 100% he needs to be played full time. He may be a freshman but he has the tools and the fan base would be happier know we are getting him geared up in overdrive for next season rather than play 2 different quarterbacks that just can’t compete with sec defenses
