Kentucky football (3-5, 1-5 SEC) fell to Auburn (3-5, 1-4 SEC) by a score of 24-10.
Both teams entered the matchup following losses as Kentucky dropped a game to Florida on the road, and the Tigers fell to Missouri at home.
With the loss, Kentucky extended its losing streak to three straight games.
The Wildcats were trying to snap a three-game losing streak against the Tigers but were unsuccessful.
The Tigers won the toss and elected to defer to the second half, which meant the Wildcats offense got the first chance of the night to score.
After getting their first lead in a conference game since week three, it was now the Wildcats first turn on defense to try and defend it.
The defense did their job as they forced a quick three-and-out and did not allow a yard.
Brock Vandagriff and company took the field for the second offensive possession of the game looking to build upon their early lead.
The lead marked the first time in SEC play that Kentucky held a two-possession lead.
The offense was unable to capitalize on the turnover as they went three-and-out which gave the Tigers offense the ball back.
Despite giving up a few first downs, the Wildcats defense used a sack to derail the drive and force a punt.
The first quarter came to an end with the Wildcats offense possessing the ball and facing a second down in their own territory.
However, that drive stalled out as Vandagriff was sacked on third down, which forced a punt.
With its lead slimmed significantly, Kentucky’s offense retook the field, but the drive ended prematurely as Vandagriff was picked off by Jay Crawford.
With the game now tied, the Wildcats offense lost essentially all of its momentum and was forced to punt the ball back to a Tigers offense that was finding its footing.
Before the two-minute timeout, Auburn picked up 40-yards and were primed to score before half.
They continued to march down the field, but a sack by J.J. Weaver caused chaos as the Tiger field goal unit tried to get on the field and snap the ball before time ran out but came up short and teams went into the locker room tied.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Weaver remained down on the field and had to be helped back to the locker room.
Due to deferring after winning the coin toss, Auburn got the first chance of the second half to break the tie.
Now trailing, the Wildcats made a change at quarterback as Gavin Wimsatt relieved Vandagriff. However, he was unable to ignite the offense, which went three-and-out and was forced to punt.
Auburn continued its offensive momentum by moving the ball down the field and into Kentucky territory, but a missed field goal kept the score where it stood.
Wimsatt trotted back out under center for his second drive, but it amounted to nothing as the Wildcats were forced to punt yet again.
Desperately needing a score, Wimsatt and company found some rhythm and put together a drive that saw them faced a fourth and goal. However, Wimsatt was intercepted by Kayin Lee.
The Tigers got the ball back and bled out the rest of the clock to secure their victory.
Following the loss, the Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they will head to Neyland Stadium for a clash with the Tennessee Volunteers. Kickoff in that matchup is set for either 7:30 or 7:45 p.m. ET.
