Kentucky football (3-3) lost its third SEC game of the season to Vanderbilt (4-2) by a score of 20-13 at Kroger Field.
Heading into the match-up both teams were coming off historic wins, Kentucky claiming a top-10 road win over No. 6 Ole Miss before the bye and Vanderbilt taking down N0.1 Alabama at home just a week ago.
Kentucky received the opening kick but was unable to march down the field as penalties halted any momentum the offense was building leading to a 41-yard punt to pin the Commodores inside their own five.
Vanderbilt made the most of its first possession, first on the ground with a 31-yard run courtesy of quarterback Diego Pavia who later found running back AJ Newberry in the endzone on a 20-yard touchdown throw.
The Wildcats cashed in on their second possession of the game thanks to a one-yard touchdown run from Demie Sumo-Karngbaye for his fourth rushing TD of the season.
On the next drive, D’Erky Jackson tipped a pass across the middle of the field from Pavia and sealed it with the interception for Jacksons interception of the year.
Keeping things tight, Vanderbilt came up with a turnover of its own.
After the Wildcats punted the ball back to the Commodores, Vandebilt took the lead again.
Coming out of the half, Vanderbilt drove down, fumbled but maintained possession and completed a field goal attempt to extend its lead.
After a holding penalty called back a Kentucky touchdown, holder Wilson Berry throws an interception after a dropped snap during the field goal attempt.
Controlling time of possession, Vanderbilt ran the ball down the field to get inside field goal range to send Brock Taylor out for his second attempt of the game.
Desperately needing a score the Kentucky offense opened up its next drive with a 14-yard Vandagriff run and was then handed another first down by a 15-yard horse collar penalty from the defense.
Vandagriff then connected with his go-to target for the score but the extra point was no good after the games second botched snap on a kick.
A much need sack came from Jackson after initial pressure from Octavious Oxendine, forcing the Commodores to punt the ball back to Wildcats down seven with three minutes to play.
A 23-yard completion to Barion Brown set the Wildcats up on their on 48-yard line but were pushed back due to two holding penalties and a sack.
The Vanderbilt defense then sealed the game with a turnover on downs on a near intercepted pass.
Vanderbilt then took the field in victory formation.
Following the loss Kentucky will return to action on the road against Florida on Saturday, Oct. 19, with a kickoff scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET.
