Students gathered on the stairs of the Memorial Hall amphitheater for Cindy “Sister Cindy” Smock’s visit to campus.
She visited campus on Monday, Oct. 7. Her visit to the university was a part of her “Ho No Mo Tour,” in which she preaches the importance of abstinence while in college.
Cindy Smock is an evangelical preacher who has been preaching on college campuses since 1977. Her sermons went viral on TikTok in 2021 as she continues to visit colleges.
Cindy is a member of The Campus Ministry USA organization. Founded by her late husband Jed Smock, the organization aims to educate college students on the teachings of the Bible.
“We’ll get going with some good old-fashioned slut-shaming,” she said at the beginning of her sermon to the students.
Students lined up to take photos with the TikTok influencer, who has 416,000 followers on the platform.
For almost four hours, Cindy preached to students. During her time, she rewarded students who answered her questions with a signed “Ho No Mo” button.
“It says here (in the Bible) that a beautiful hoe has got a gold-studded diamond in a pig’s nose. Oink, oink, oink. That’s not very demure, not very mindful, not very cutesy, not very respectful,” Cindy said. “Never fear, Sister Cindy is here for you today.”
Cindy was joined by Catherine Jones and Brother Frank, both of whom have appeared in many of her TikToks.
Jones serves as Cindy’s assistant. She said that they come to campuses to “spread the word of God.”
Around halfway through her sermon, she was interrupted by the UK Police Department.
Brother Frank explained to the students that she was not allowed to preach with amplified sound and that the space must be reserved up to two weeks in advance. UKPD Chief Joseph Monroe confirmed this information to students.
Cindy was offered an ultimatum; either leave the property or head to the designated area for on-campus preachers.
“You can’t silence Sister Cindy,” a student said in the crowd.
Students cheered and chanted “Ho No Mo” as Cindy continued her preaching and UKPD continued to monitor the event.
Cindy asked the students who were the “establishment hoes.” Sophomore Cooper Evans responded with Megan Thee Stallion, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
Evans grabbed a button from Cindy as he answered her question correctly.
He said he figured that her “character” was satire, but she still proved to be entertaining. He said he has followed her accounts for a while and was a “big fan.”
Cindy alluded to how certain songs are making students want to be a “freak.”
“Megan Thee Stallion has taught you that you have reached your accomplishment as a woman when you’re a certified freak, seven days a week,” Cindy said.
She also said she doesn’t like Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” as she believes that no student was born a “hoe” and the “hoe has to go.” She said that students should pray to God to not be a “hoe” anymore.
When heckled about the LGBTQ+ community, Cindy told students that “love is love and lust is lust.”
“The gay people just really love me,” she said. “Sister Cindy is a gay icon, and I also love the gays!”
Cindy ended her sermon with her “One Margarita” speech. Her speech states that the more margaritas a woman has, the more provocative she will be with a man.
“If you buy her one margarita, she will spread her legs,” she said. “After five, she will strap it on and peg you!”
