Kentucky football received one vote in the week seven AP Top 25 Poll, being a victim of the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality and losing five votes.
The Wildcats had the week off after conquering former No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford in by far the biggest win of the team’s season, but in a week full of crazy upsets and storylines, only one voter kept the Wildcats on their ballot.
Around the SEC, the conference once again both won and lost the No. 1 spot as Texas reclaimed the first slot following Alabama’s shocking defeat against Vanderbilt.
The Crimson Tide, for its troubles, fell down to the No. 7 spot, two spots lower than No. 5 Georgia, which it beat one week prior to steal the first slot.
Tennessee also suffered a significant drop after being stunned by Arkansas, falling four spots to No. 8 in the poll.
Rounding out the top five, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State all benefited from the Vols’ and Tide’s woes, claiming the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 slots.
Ole Miss climbed back up to the No. 9 spot after falling to No. 12 when it lost to the Wildcats. The Rebels both harmed and benefited Kentucky, making the win in Oxford look better but devaluing the loss at home to South Carolina by dismantling the Gamecocks 27-3.
LSU stayed put at No. 13 while on a bye week while Texas A&M enjoyed a 10-spot rise in the rankings up to No. 15 with its 41-10 thrashing of former No. 9 Missouri.
The Tigers of Mizzou fell a staggering 12 spots to No. 21 and were almost the biggest loser of the week had it not been for Michigan plummeting 14 spots to No. 24 after losing to Washington.
Oklahoma checked in, technically, one spot ahead of the Tigers in a three-way tie for No. 18 alongside Kansas State and undefeated Indiana.
Rounding out the SEC, Vanderbilt received 26 votes while Arkansas nabbed 17 following their massive upsets and Kentucky received the aforementioned one vote.
Kentucky’s in-state rival, Louisville, fell out of the poll entirely after being embarrassed by SMU, which received the No. 25 spot, and received four votes in the poll, the lowest of any team besides Kentucky and Colorado (3).
Kentucky will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12, against the Commodores of Vandy at Kroger Field. Kick off versus the ‘Dores is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET and will air live on the SEC Network.
