Kentucky football received six votes in the week six AP Top 25 football poll on Sunday despite defeating former No. 6 Ole Miss on the road on Saturday.
The Wildcats improved to 3-2 on the year with the win and the six votes they received saw them re-enter the top 25 conversation at all after receiving no votes in week five after beating the Ohio Bobcats.
The six votes also marked the most Kentucky has received all year after entering the season with three votes, dropping to two after a season-opening win over Southern Miss and falling out altogether after being blown out at home by South Carolina to open SEC play.
Looking around the poll, the SEC both lost and reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the poll as the Alabama Crimson Tide jumped three spots from No. 4 after conquering No. 2 Georgia 41-34 in a thrilling late-night contest.
Former No. 1 Texas dropped one spot to No. 2 after a shaky offensive display in the first half against Mississippi State, though the Longhorns bounced back in the second half to win 35-13.
Ohio State stayed put at the No. 3 spot after an easy win over Michigan State while Tennessee stole the No. 4 spot after having a week off following a win over Oklahoma. Georgia slotted in at No. 5 after the Alabama loss.
Missouri was the final SEC team to crack the top 10, jumping two spots to No. 9 after a bye week. The remainder of the top 10 was filled out by Oregon, Penn State, Miami (FL) and Michigan, with the Hurricanes dropping one spot after a controversial ending against Virginia Tech.
The conquered Rebels of Ole Miss slotted in at No. 12 following the loss to Kentucky, falling six spots.
Surprisingly, the six-spot drop was not the largest of the poll and wasn’t even the second largest with No. 18 Utah falling eight spots after being dismantled on its home field by Arizona — which was the first team unranked with 106 votes — and Louisville falling seven spots to No. 22 after being bested by Notre Dame (No. 14).
Rounding out the SEC, No. 13 LSU climbed one spot after taking care of business against South Alabama, No. 19 Oklahoma climbed two spots after beating Auburn and South Carolina received eight votes following a bye week.
Interestingly, despite winning 21-17 over Arkansas, the Texas A&M Aggies fell from No. 24 in the poll to receiving no votes whatsoever.
Kentucky will be unable to build on its momentum in week seven, having a bye week before hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores in week eight.
