Kentucky football (2-2) returned to the win column after it dominated Ohio (2-2) by a score of 41-6.
The Wildcats entered the game attempting to get back on track after dropping their last two games.
The Bobcats won the coin toss and elected to defer which meant Brock Vandagriff and the offense got the ball first. However, the drive stalled out and the Cats were forced to punt.
Ohio entered the game shorthanded as its starting quarterback Parker Navarro was out with an injury.
The offense retook the field looking to get on the scoreboard.
After Kentucky forced another punt, its offense retook to the field looking to snap its touchdown drought.
The Wildcats drove down the field and faced a third and nine on Ohio’s 16-yard line when the first quarter came to a close.
Kentucky’s defense looked to continue to build momentum, but they allowed the Bobcats to have their first sustained drive and first chances in the red zone.
The Wildcats offense looked to take the turnover and keep building upon their lead.
Just when it looked like the drive was going to stall out, the Wildcats gambled on a fourth and seven which turned into a 36-yard connection from Vandagriff to Dane Key to set up first and goal on the Ohio 2-yard line.
The Bobcats offensive drive took the game to under two minutes in the first half, but resulted in a punt that gave the Wildcats offense 1:47 to build upon its lead.
The Wildcats were unable to do so as they used all of their timeouts and could not get a field goal attempt off before time expired in the half.
Coming out of the half, the Bobcats began with the ball. The Wildcats forced a punt which gave the offense their first chances of the second half.
Now with even more padding to the lead, the defense looked to continue their shutout over the Bobcats.
Following the touchdown, the Wildcats defense forced a Bobcat punt to give the ball back to the offense.
However, Vandagriff and company were unable to add points as they were stopped on fourth and one resulting in a turnover on downs.
Looking to erase the shutout, Ohio’s offense caught some traction as the third quarter came to a close.
After losing the shutout, the offense returned to action looking to get further out in front.
After the defense forced another punt, Gavin Wimsatt came in at quarterback for Vandagriff.
The Bobcats held the ball for the remainder of the game as Kentucky secured the win.
Following the victory, Kentucky will hit the road for the first time this season as they will head to Oxford, Mississippi for a clash with No. 5 Ole Miss on Saturday, Sept. 28, with kickoff scheduled for noon ET.
