Kentucky hockey defeated Penn State 4-1 on Friday, Sept. 14, at the Lexington Ice Center.
The Wildcats would strike first with freshman Macklin Yelle scoring his first career goal five minutes into the first period, giving the Cats a 1-0 lead.
The rest of the first period would see a back-and-forth contest with neither team finding the back of the net.
Penn State found its footing early in the second period, answering with a goal to tie the game.
This momentum shift did not last long, however, as the Nittany Lions were given a penalty, awarding UK a five-on-four power play.
Freshman Ty Patefield capitalized on the man advantage and the Cats retook the lead 2-1 before the end of the second period.
While still a close game, the third period of play would prove to be all Kentucky as the Wildcats would score two unanswered goals to seal the fate of the visiting Nittany Lions.
Winning their last two games and holding a record of 2-1 to start the season, the Wildcats will look to build on their momentum as they face East Texas Baptist University in a two-game series starting Sept. 14, at the Lexington Ice Center at midnight.
