Kentucky women’s soccer (6-0-0) defeated Murray State (3-3-1) by a score of 1-0 on Thursday.
Both defenses started out strong as there was no scoring from either side during the first half.
“They obviously played in a low block and kept people behind.” Kentucky head coach Troy Fabiano said.
The second half started out similarly until freshman Anna Sikorski gave the Cats the lead in the 66th minute with the first goal of her college career.
“It was such a relief,” Sikorski said. “I kept going at the goal in the first half and was just kind of getting frustrated, but in the second half when I saw it hit the back, it was a relief.”
The Cats kept their lead for the rest of the game and finished with a 1-0 victory.
“I think it was just about patience,” senior Makala Woods said. “I think we just need to keep going and taking our chances.”
The Cats’ 6-0 start is their best since 2011, where they started 7-0 before falling to No. 24 Dayton. The start is also Fabiano’s best since taking over the team in 2022.
Kentucky will look to stay unbeaten this Sunday as it hosts No. 9 UCLA at The Bell Soccer Complex. Kickoff will be at noon ET.
