No. 9 Kentucky volleyball defeated Morehead State in a sweep to improve to 3-1 on the season.
With the win over Morehead State, the Cats won the Bluegrass Battle, going 3-0.
Kentucky started the first set dominating every aspect of the game outside of its eight serving errors. Seven of the Eagles’ first 11 points were on Kentucky serve errors.
After being tied at 12, the Cats went on a 6-0 run. The Eagles really struggled to return sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye’s serve as she had two aces during the 6-0 streak. The Cats eventually won the first set 25-19.
The second and third sets weren’t close as Kentucky ended up holding Morehead State to a negative hitting percentage, with it finishing at negative-.086.
Kentucky won the second set 25-13 and closed things out in the third, winning 25-8.
It was a shared effort offensively with no one having more than six kills individually.
The player who stood out defensively was sophomore libero Molly Tuozzo.
Tuozzo made her second start at libero and looked really comfortable, tying a career-high in digs with 16 and also added six assists.
“I know it’s a big role to fill, so I’ve been trying to do my best to fill that role,” she said. “Be loud, be a leader for my teammates. It’s been great.”
Kentucky will be in action next against No. 7 Penn State at the Historic Memorial Coliseum. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 6, and will be aired on SEC Network.
