No. 5 Kentucky gymnastics (7-2, 4-1 SEC) defeated No. 28 Brigham Young University (6-9, 1-2 Big 12) 197.775-196.600 on Friday evening in Rupp Arena at the Central Bank Center.
As Kentucky continues to stack successful wins and hold its top five spot nationally, the road to nationals looks bright.
The success of the Wildcats on the floor is easily noticed and valued, but there is much more that goes into a team with such prosperity, explained head coach Tim Garrison.
“Having a rapport with our athletes is the most critical component,” Garrison said. “The locker room itself is sometimes more important than the gym, and then the actual apparatus because they create the environment that allows for success.”
With many program and individual records broken, Garrison explained what exactly differentiates his team from others.
“I just told the team a few minutes ago, this is who we are now. We are a team that can achieve at this level. The potential for the team is really unlimited,” Garrison said. “We are a team that can break records and only get better throughout the season.”
The 7-2 Kentucky Wildcats will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete against the Razorbacks on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 8:30 PM ET.
